Description
Sphinx Rock, Cathedral Cove, Coromandel, 2019
We were staying in the Coromandel and decided to get up in the middle of the night in an attempt to capture the sunrise at Cathedral Cove. There was that famous Cathedral Cove shot I wanted to emulate.
Turns out it decided to rain for the “first time in six weeks” that morning and quite heavily too. When we made the 45min trek down to the beach the sunrise was basically non-existent. Turns out we weren’t the only ones there either as a couple of young travellers awoke from the surf lifesaving tower sodden after a night of heavy rainfall. They were there to capture the non-existent sunrise too.
I brought my neutral density filter with me which is basically put over the front of the lens to make the camera think it is darker than it actually is. This enables longer exposure to capture movement such as the waves in this photograph here.
