Description

Lake Pukaki Levels, MacKenzie Country, 2009

This photograph was made in my 2009 two week tour of the South Island. It was included in my ‘Manipulated by the Human Hand’ series.

I had pulled over by the lake to have a nap as I was tired after driving for several hours that day. When I awoke the atmosphere had settled in such a fortunate way that I was able to make this photograph in the afternoon light and visible fog. The conditions didn’t last for long, it was a case of being in the right place at the right time.

Lake Pukaki is part of the Waitaki hydroelectric scheme. The lake is damned and the water used to generate electricity at the nearby power stations. Hydroelectric lakes provide New Zealand with approximately 60% of our energy requirements. Not only are these lakes incredibly beautiful they also power our homes and businesses with renewable energy.

Framing

All prints are supplied unframed. This is to avoid any damage during shipping. I am happy to advise you on my suggested framing method. For more information please contact me via email at peter@peterevansphotography.co.nz
