Description
Homer Tunnel, Milford Sound, 2008
This photograph was made in 2008 as part of my final year of study at Elam School of Fine Arts. It was included in my exhibition ‘Manipulated by the Human Hand’ which was a photographic study of our interaction with and transformation of the natural environment of New Zealand.
This was shot during a two week tour of the South Island in the middle of Winter.
The Homer Tunnel is a 1.2 km long road tunnel in the Fiordland region of the South Island of New Zealand, opened in 1953. New Zealand State Highway 94 passes through the tunnel, linking Milford Sound to Te Anau and Queenstown.
Not the safest spot to stop and take photographs, however I felt compelled to do so. Dwarfed by the snow covered mountains you are absorbed here. The scene is like a black and white image except for the small details of colour. A humbling place to be indeed.
Framing
All prints are supplied unframed. This is to avoid any damage during shipping. I am happy to advise you on my suggested framing method. For more information please contact me via email at peter@peterevansphotography.co.nz
